Wigan Diggers' Festival 
Gerrard Winstanley wasn’t even the first Wigan Digger, but inspired by the earlier action of Wigan clay and coal diggers who established the right to dig up the common land for clay and coal in the town, early in the 17th century. He was certainly, however, it’s most famous one.
